Sustainable Spatial Planning and Design

Description of the research group

Research topic 1: Sustainable Spatial Planning. Analysis of spatial systems and structural components of large-scale regional contexts (settlements, blue and green networks, economic activities, infrastructures and mobility); definition of planning tools and standards for collective equipment.

Reserach topic 2: Blue economy and integrated sea-land maritime and spatial planning, with a focus on decarbonization and climate change adaptation. Raising competences and skills in the domain of blue economy, and towards the definition of integrated strategies and solutions for sustainable transportation of people and goods, pollution reduction, the enhancement of marine-terrestrial biodiversity, and digital transition.

Research topic 3: Collaborative planning and urban regeneration. Operational models for participatory processes applied to the regeneration of deprived urban contexts, inner and marginalized areas; urban design solutions to support local development and social inclusion.

Research topic 4: affordable housing. Analysis of conventional and unconventional housing and social housing solutions; development of innovative design proposals and testing of their feasibility. The The research group also collaborates with the RG Technological design of buildings and urban spaces (reference person: Ilaria Garofolo) in several cross-cutting activities.
