Bioengineering group (GNBTS Group)
Description
The GNBTS Group was founded in 1980 as the Trieste Unit of the GNB (Gruppo Nazionale di Bioingegneria). The Group deals with scientific and technological research, teaching, promotion and coordination of local, regional and international cooperation in the fields of Biomedical Engineering and Technological Innovation with Information & Communication Technology (ICT) tools.
On the scientific and technological research and development side, GNBTS deals with biomedical instrumentation, biomedical signal and image processing, neuromodeling and neuronavigation, plasticity of sensory-motor systems, hospital and clinical information systems, health telematics, telemedicine, integrated home care. It carries out applied and industrial research also on behalf of Local Authorities, IRCCS, Regions and Hospitals. In terms of local, regional, transnational and international cooperation, GNBTS has agreements and joint projects with many public and private entities in the United States (in particular at the NIH), in the European Community and in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
Various projects are financed with government and EU funds. It carries out research in its laboratories at the Department of Engineering and Architecture(DIA) and in other laboratories of public and private partner institutions. On the educational side, GNBTS is well known for the School of Specialization in Clinical Engineering (SSIC), active within the Faculty of Engineering, for 12 years starting from 1991/92. In 2003, with the university reform and in the context of international cooperation, the School was transformed into Studi Superiori in Ingegneria Clinica - Higher Education in Clinical Engineering (SSIC-HECE) with a second level post master degree (SMMCE) and an educational path that includes the three-year bachelor degree in information engineering, biomedical curriculum, and the master's degree in Clinical Engineering(LMIC).
